Ang\u00e9lique Mongez expose r\u00e9guli\u00e8rement au Salon de Paris, des tableaux d\u2019histoire de grandes dimensions qui suscitent la pol\u00e9mique, les femmes ayant interdiction de peindre des nus. Son art \u00e9volue au fil du temps, se d\u00e9tachant de celui de David pour se rappocher du style qu\u2019adoptera \u00e9galement Ingres.
