{"id":27885,"date":"2024-08-21T09:26:05","date_gmt":"2024-08-21T08:26:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.histoiresgalantes.fr\/blog\/?p=27885"},"modified":"2024-12-11T17:42:03","modified_gmt":"2024-12-11T16:42:03","slug":"de-marchands-de-bois-en-lorraine-au-gotha-lascension-fulgurante-des-freres-babaud","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.histoiresgalantes.fr\/blog\/2024\/08\/21\/de-marchands-de-bois-en-lorraine-au-gotha-lascension-fulgurante-des-freres-babaud\/","title":{"rendered":"De \u00ab\u00a0Marchands de bois en Lorraine\u00a0\u00bb au \u00ab\u00a0Gotha\u00a0\u00bb, l\u2019ascension fulgurante des fr\u00e8res Babaud"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<figure class=\"wp-block-video aligncenter\"><video autoplay loop muted src=\"https:\/\/www.histoiresgalantes.fr\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/08\/IMG_4971-1.mp4\"><\/video><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Cet \u00e9t\u00e9, j\u2019\u00e9tais heureuse de changer d\u2019air en quittant <strong>la Lorraine <\/strong>pour <strong>le Nivernais<\/strong> (actuelle Ni\u00e8vre).<br>Mais, apr\u00e8s quelques recherches sur l\u2019histoire du domaine ou je s\u00e9journais tr\u00e8s agr\u00e9ablement, je me suis aper\u00e7ue qu\u2019il appartenait, au XVIIIe si\u00e8cle, \u00e0 un<strong> ancien marchand de bois lorrain<\/strong> ! et cerise sur le g\u00e2teau, que celui-ci et son fr\u00e8re s\u2019\u00e9taient associ\u00e9s pour faire des affaires avec le <strong>\u00ab\u00a0directeur g\u00e9n\u00e9ral des finances du\u00a0duc L\u00e9opold de Lorraine\u00a0\u00bb<\/strong> !<br>La Lorraine est formidable parce qu\u2019elle est partout\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Voici donc la r\u00e9ussite extraordinaire de<strong> Pierre Babaud<\/strong>, \u00ab&nbsp;marchand de bois en Lorraine&nbsp;\u00bb devenu <strong>Pierre Babaud de la Chaussade<\/strong> \u00ab&nbsp;conseiller-secr\u00e9taire du roi&nbsp;\u00bb.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><br>Au milieu du XVIIIe si\u00e8cle, <strong>Pierre Babaud de la Chaussade<\/strong> est l\u2019un des plus gros industriels de France. Fournisseur exclusif de <strong>la marine royale<\/strong>, il embauche dans ses nombreuses forges pas moins de <strong>2 000 ouvriers<\/strong>. De ses forges et de ses fourneaux sortent<strong> les ancres pour la Marine, la Compagnie des Indes et les Colonies<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><br>Fils de <strong>Pierre Babaud,&nbsp;sieur de Beaupr\u00e9<\/strong>, <strong>exploitant des bois de Bitche en Lorraine<\/strong>, <strong>Pierre<\/strong> <strong>Babaud <\/strong>(1706-1792) et son fr\u00e8re <strong>Jean <\/strong>(1702-1739) s\u2019associent au financier suisse <strong>Jacques MASSON<\/strong>, qui est <strong>directeur g\u00e9n\u00e9ral des finances du&nbsp;duc L\u00e9opold de Lorraine<\/strong>, excusez du peu.<br>Pour faire des affaires, les trois hommes sont surdou\u00e9s, Jacques Masson sera m\u00eame pris la main dans le sac \u00e0 la mort du duc L\u00e9opold et sera emprisonn\u00e9 quelques mois dans les prisons de Nancy. <br>Le financier s\u2019est fait une fortune suspecte et rapide dans l\u2019administration des finances du duch\u00e9 de Lorraine, o\u00f9 il s\u2019est enrichi dans le commerce du bois. Il est le premier \u00e0 acheter les forges de Gu\u00e9rigny dans le Nivernais en 1720.<br><br>Les BABAUD mari\u00e9s avec les MASSON, et vice-versa, acqui\u00e8rent la totalit\u00e9 des forges de la r\u00e9gion autour de <strong>la Charit\u00e9-sur-Loire <\/strong>pour y produire les ancres de la marine royale. Il poss\u00e8de cinq hauts fourneaux, dix-sept forges, cinq forges aux ancres \u00bb. Il obtient une sorte de monopole en 1762, petit exemple de capitalisme m\u00e9tallurgique enti\u00e8rement li\u00e9 aux commandes d\u2019\u00c9tat, fournit en fers et en ancres les ports de guerre fran\u00e7ais ainsi que la Compagnie des Indes. Rien n\u2019est moins s\u00fbr car, malgr\u00e9 que celui-ci ait conserv\u00e9 les traces d\u2019un pass\u00e9 prestigieux, la r\u00e9sidence officielle de la comtesse \u00e9tait le ch\u00e2teau de Bizy, beaucoup plus ostentatoire\u2026<br>Si &#8220;mon domaine estival&#8221; fut vendu deux fois, en 1749 et en 1782, comme l\u2019attestent les <em>Affiches de Paris<\/em>, il semble cependant \u00eatre rest\u00e9 dans la famille de <strong>PIERRE BABAUD DE LA CHAUSSADE<\/strong> et appartiendrait toujours aux descendants de <strong>Rose<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n<div
