Femme artiste – Susanna Duncombe (1725-1812)

Susanna Duncombe, née Highmore, est une illustratrice poète anglaise.
Fille unique du peintre Joseph Highmore et de sa femme, également poète, Susanna reçoit une parfaite éducation, apprend à parler latin, espagnol, français et italien et fait partie d’un groupe de personnalités littéraires.
Ses dessins assez naïfs il faut l’avouer illustrent de façon assez fraîche la vie d’une aristocrate anglaise du XVIIIe siècle.
Le portrait de son petit chien croisé avec un ouistiti est très réussi !
